Common Projects

The DRD1 Common Project is designed to support project costs in areas of shared interest within the DRD1 community, including:

Blue-sky and Generic R&D: High-risk/high-reward research projects, long-term research with potential impacts that may take time to realize, and exploratory research into new areas that may not show immediate benefits but could lead to significant advancements in the future.

Detector Physics R&D: Projects focused on measurements and simulations relevant to improving the current understanding of detector physics, with the potential to introduce new concepts, improve or consolidate existing solutions, and develop innovative ideas.

Novel Applications: Research focused on the development of gaseous detectors for novel applications.

Technology R&D: Projects aimed at developing novel techniques, enhancing existing technologies, improving characterization methods, and creating dedicated tools of common interest within the community.

Industry Technology Transfer: Initiatives to enhance the transfer of gaseous detector technology to industry.

These projects promote collaborative efforts involving a minimum number of participating institutes. CPs will be approved and reviewed by the DRD1 management and supported by DRD1 Common Funds, along with matching resources from participating institutes. CPs are limited in duration and financial support. CPs proposed by early-career researchers will be promoted; they will offer an opportunity for these researchers to gain experience in starting and managing small-scale R&D projects and to gain visibility within the Collaboration. Successful Common Projects may evolve into
